What VELUM does, and what it doesn't.

Two characters explain one calculated chart.

SERVICE SCOPE

VELUM is a cultural service for entertainment and self-reflection, in which AI explains a Saju chart calculated by the traditional rules VELUM has adopted. It does not provide scientifically validated predictions or the judgment of medical, mental health, legal or financial professionals.

TWO CHARACTERS

Two interpretive characters read the same calculation. VELUM is a warm reader who gives its judgment first and folds the chart grounds into EVIDENCE; ABYSS is a blunt appraiser that names what gets in the way and gives a method only when asked. Their conversations are stored separately, and neither changes the calculation.

PRODUCT FLOW

After the birth details are entered, VELUM writes the first briefing once (one chapter introducing the chart and six chapters of reading). In conversation, each question receives only the calculation it needs. VELUM answers come with two follow-up questions; ABYSS speaks first when a conversation opens.

CALCULATION STANDARD

The same input always gives the same chart.

Where conventions differ, VELUM follows the traditional standard.

CALCULATION BOUNDARY

The calculation covers only facts that come out the same every time within the scope VELUM has adopted and published. Missing input, several remaining candidates and anything not yet settled are never filled in from the AI's general knowledge.

MONTH

The month pillar changes at the exact moment of the solar term. For a birth on a solar-term day with an unknown time, VELUM does not pick one month pillar; it calculates each possible case separately.

HOUR

The birth hour starts from the clock time on the birth record. VELUM removes daylight saving time and wartime clock changes using the historical time rules of the birthplace (and, for Korea, the 1954–1961 +08:30 standard), then sets local solar time from the birthplace's longitude.

UNKNOWN HOUR

When the birth time is unknown, VELUM calculates all twelve double-hours. Only judgments that come out the same for every hour are treated as settled; judgments that depend on the hour are marked separately.

LUNAR DATES

Lunar and leap-month birthdays are converted to the solar calendar and calculated by the same standard.

INTERPRETATION

AI writes the reading. It never changes the calculation.

AI ROLE

VELUM and ABYSS are AI characters, not people. A generative AI language model writes the interpretation and the prose of every briefing and answer. It receives only a small selection of the calculation that the question needs, and it cannot change calculated values or judgments. The model's name and provider are not shown in the service.

SOURCES KEPT APART

Calculation results, facts the user states, and earlier interpretations are kept apart. VELUM puts the user's correction ahead of its earlier reading; ABYSS accepts facts the user states but keeps the reading it took from the calculation. Neither invents events that did not happen, other people's thoughts, or results such as dates and amounts.

SAFETY

VELUM is not therapy or counseling, and it does not replace a doctor, therapist, lawyer or financial professional. Requests that need a professional's judgment, such as a diagnosis, a prescription or whether to keep taking a medication, are not decided from the chart and are referred to a professional. In every conversation, when a message shows signs of suicide or self-harm, both characters stop the reading and give 911 and the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988); in Korean, 119 and 109. How it is detected, how it responds and where it falls short are published under AI & SAFETY.

DATA

The record stays on the user's device.

LOCAL FIRST

Birth details, the briefing and conversations are stored only in the user's browser. There are no personal accounts and no server sync; a record moves only by a backup file the user downloads.

PROCESSING

To write an answer, the question and the context it needs are sent briefly to OpenAI with conversation storage turned off. OpenAI may keep them up to 30 days to monitor abuse; when VELUM launches as a full service, we plan to apply for Zero Data Retention. Earlier conversations are sent again only when the user turns memory on. VELUM's servers store no questions, answers or birth details; they keep only usage records such as question counts, the engines used, response times and the order in which suggested questions are chosen. PRIVACY and HEALTH DATA give the full scope.

WHAT VELUM DOES NOT

It does not guarantee the future or make choices for you.

NO GUARANTEE

Answers do not guarantee fate, future events, success, profit, health, lifespan or legal outcomes. Anything not calculated or outside the supported scope cannot be taken as settled fact.

YOUR DECISION

Final choices and their consequences belong to the user. For important medical, legal or financial decisions, check the actual records and current conditions and consult a qualified professional in that field.

AS IS

During the private beta, VELUM is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, VELUM is not liable for the results of choices made on its answers. This does not limit liability for VELUM's intent or gross negligence, or any liability the law does not allow to be limited.

USE

How to use it.

OTHER PEOPLE

In MATCH, enter only the birth details of people you know and may share. Don't use VELUM for decisions that could disadvantage another person, such as hiring, lending, renting or insurance.

YOUR READINGS

You may keep the briefings and answers VELUM writes for you and share them personally. VELUM's name, screens and calculation system remain VELUM's.

MISUSE

Disrupting the service, sending automated bulk requests, or using VELUM to harm others is not allowed, and access may be restricted.

CLOSE BETA

Currently by invitation only.

ADULTS ONLY

VELUM is for adults 18 and older. A birth date under 18 cannot start a VELUM record. Companion-style AI that carries a conversation on may not be suitable for some minors. By logging in, you agree to these terms and confirm you are 18 or older.

PAID FEATURES

The private beta has no paid features. If paid features come, their price, renewal, cancellation and refund terms will be shown and agreed to before any payment.

BIRTH INFO

VELUM carries a long, deep conversation from one person's chart. The birth details entered first anchor the VELUM record on that device; changing them erases the existing conversations, first briefing and MATCH records and starts a new record. VELUM cannot restore an erased record.

SHARED SIGN-IN

The shared private beta sign-in limits who can take part. It is not a personal account. Server sync and automatic recovery are not provided.

AVAILABILITY

The private beta is not guaranteed to be always on or to answer every request. If the network or the answer provider fails, VELUM shows that it is unavailable right now instead of making up a calculation or an answer.

CHANGES

The calculation scope, screens and way of using VELUM may change during the private beta. When these terms change materially, the new terms and their effective date are shown here before they apply.
